| In a night pregnant with a strange mix of tension and dizzy abandon, lovers Carla and Martin prowl clubs before drunkenly wandering back to his car. While he comes across as crass nouveau riche, she appears more liberal. Their conspicuous affluence, however, makes them ideal targets for kidnappers, and the trio of Trece, Budu and Niga gets a bead on them and promptly sweeps them up at gunpoint. The kidnappers then demand $20,000 to be delivered in two hours. Carla phones her rich father Sergio to procure the money, but chaos soon ensues. A botched ATM robbery is followed by a stopover at the palatial estate of a gay drug dealer.Venezuela has been living in political chaos for the last
15 years, at least. Over 80 people have been killed in demonstrations
in recent months. It has the largest oil reserves in Lat. America and
yet the people there starve, there are no medicines, while the political
and financial Elite live in luxury. The "joke" is that the situation in
Venezuela has become a political issue in my own country, Greece, where
the ruling "Coalition of Radical Left" consider this country an
exemplary "Socialist State" while the Opposition Conservatives consider
Venezuela an example of "ruinous Socialism". This film actually is a
strong message about the ongoing struggle between the "haves" and the
"have nots" and the social issues involved. The epilogue (last scene
comments) is a stunning message.
Secuestro Express was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at
the British Independent Film Awards. It's a DV (digital video shooting)
but the director and editor did a great job in crafting/editing.The
film follows the kidnapping of a young, rich couple, Carla and her
handsome boyfriend Martin, by three men who make their living by
kidnapping ignorant young adults to extort quick money from their
wealthy parents. The victims are sent on a terrifying night journey
through Caracas as they wait for Carla's father to hand over the ransom.
They are emotionally and physically hurt, they try to escape, however,
none of their plans pan out. They continue in this Odyssey listening and
understanding, even if slightly, their captors' point of view. Through
the many mishaps they encounter, they begin to, albeit scarily, bond
with the kidnappers while Carla's own world is shattered by Martin's
double life secrets.
Η Βενεζουέλα ζει σε πολιτικό χάος εδώ και
15 χρόνια. Τους τελευταίους μήνες έχουν σκοτωθεί περίπου 80 άνθρωποι σε
διαδηλώσεις. Εχει τα μεγαλύτερα αποθέματα πετρελαίου στην Λατ. Αμερική
και όμως ο λαός λιμοκτονεί, δεν υπάρχουν φάρμακα ενώ η πολιτική και
οικονομική Ελίτ ζει μέσα στην πολυτέλεια. Το αστείο είναι ότι η
κατάσταση τής Βενεζουέλας έχει γίνει πολιτικό ζήτημα στην ίδια μας την
χώρα, την Ελλάδα !! Η ταινία έχει ισχυρά πολιτικά μηνύματα για τα
κοινωνικά θέματα πλούτου-φτώχειας ενώ το σχόλιο τής τελευταίας σκηνής
είναι συγκλονιστικό.
Το Secuestro Express προτάθηκε για το βραβείο "καλύτερη ξένη ταινία" στα
Βρετανικά Βραβεία Ανεξαρτήτων Ταινιών. Γυρίστηκε σε DV [δηλ με ψηφιακή
κάμερα] αλλά ο σκηνοθέτης και ο μοντέρ έκαναν εκπληκτική δουλειά στο
μοντάζ. Η ταινία ακολουθεί την απαγωγή ενός νεαρού, πλούσιου ζευγαριού,
τής Κάρλα και τού όμορφου φίλου της Μαρτίν, από τρεις άντρες που
βιοπορίζονται με το να απαγάγουν αφελείς, νεαρούς ενήλικες για να
εκβιάσουν γρήγορα λύτρα από τους πλούσιους γονείς. Τα θύματα ζούν ένα
τρομακτικό νυκτερινό ταξίδι στο Καράκας, καθώς περιμένουν τον πατέρα τής
Κάρλα να παραδώσει τα λύτρα. Είναι συναισθηματικά και σωματικά
πληγωμένοι, προσπαθούν να ξεφύγουν, ωστόσο, κανένα από τα σχέδιά τους
δεν βγαίνει. Ζουν μιαν Οδύσσεια, ακούγοντας και κατανοώντας, έστω
μερικώς, την άποψη τών απαγωγέων τους. Μέσα από τις πολλές ατυχίες που
συναντούν, αρχίζουν να δένονται με τους απαγωγείς τους, ενώ ο Κόσμος της
Κάρλα καταρρέει από τα μυστικά τής διπλής ζωής τού Μαρτίν.
