  ;Dead Europe is an adaptation of the 2005 novel by the Australian author (of Greek descent) Christos Tsiolkas ("Loaded - Head On" , "The Slap" etc).
Tsiolkas uses strong narrative and sometimes certain dialogues may sound racist and offensive. That's his way of fighting bigotry, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, prejudice, the conservatism of hicks, the rise of neo-nazism in the huge masses of neo-paupers in the European Union.
Following his father's death, Aussie gay photographer Isaac decides to return the ashes to his ancestral homeland in Greece. But his journey reveals some dark secrets about his father's history and a supposed curse. As he tries to unravel the dark and troubling secrets of the past, Isaac travels from Greece to Paris to Budapest. Isaac meets the troubled Yosef, an illegal refugee in hiding, and tries to rescue him from male prostitution. Isaac catches up with his estranged brother Niko, and is drawn into an underworld of pornography and sex slavery. This is a bleak and dark vision of contemporary Europe in crisis ("a continent of lost souls" Niko says).
Dead Europe explores themes involving the need to challenge tradition but also honour the responsibility to our families, the ghosts of the past shaping the present, the unstoppable influx of illegal immigrants, the inherent racism and anti-Semitism of Europe, the nature of guilt.
You can almost feel and smell the physical and moral decay of European cities. This is a uniquely European story to the extent that those of us residing there, more than anywhere, are living with the ghosts of the past. If the sins of the fathers shall be visited upon the sons, it will happen in countries like Greece and France and Hungary (Europe in general), due to a firmly rooted historical reality.
Dead Europe brings us into a world from which we cannot escape, as our actions may come back to haunt us.

Το Dead Europe είναι προσαρμογή τού βιβλίου (2005) τού ελληνο-αυστραλού συγγραφέα Christos Tsiolkas ("Loaded - Head On", "The Slap" )
O Τσιόλκας χρησιμοποιεί προκληκτική γλώσσα και θεματογραφία και ορισμένοι διάλογοι ακούγονται ρατσιστικοί και προσβλητικοί. Αυτός είναι ο τρόπος του για την καταπολέμηση τής μισαλλοδοξίας, τού αντισημιτισμού, τής ισλαμοφοβίας, την προκατάληψη, τον συντηρητισμό τών ανθρώπων της υπαίθρου, την άνοδο τού Ναζισμού μεταξύ τών νεό-φτωχων τής Ευρωπαϊκής Ενωσης.
Μετά το θάνατο τού πατέρα του, ο Αυστραλός γκέι φωτογράφος Isaac αποφασίζει να επιστρέψει τις στάχτες τού νεκρού στην Ελλάδα. Αλλά το ταξίδι του αποκαλύπτει μερικά σκοτεινά μυστικά για την ιστορία του πατέρα του και μια υποτιθέμενη κατάρα. Προσπαθώντας να ξετυλίξει το σκοτεινό παρελθόν, ο Ισαάκ ταξιδεύει από την Ελλάδα στο Παρίσι, στη Βουδαπέστη. Συναντά τον νεαρό Yosef, ένα παράνομο πρόσφυγα και προσπαθεί να τον σώσει από την ανδρική πορνεία. Ξανασυνδέεται με τον αποξενωμένο αδελφό του Νίκο και παρασύρετα σε έναν υπόκοσμο πορνογραφίας και σεξουαλικής δουλείας. Αυτή είναι μια ψυχρή και σκοτεινή εικόνα τής σύγχρονης Ευρώπης σε κρίση («μια ήπειρος χαμένων ψυχών" λέει ο Niko).
Το Dead Europe ερευνά θέματα που αφορούν την ανάγκη να αμφισβητήσουμε την παράδοση αλλά και να τιμήσουμε την ευθύνη μας για τις οικογένειές μας, πώς τα φαντάσματα τού παρελθόντος διαμορφώνουν το παρόν, η ασταμάτητη εισροή παράνομων μεταναστών, ο έμφυτος ρατσισμός και αντισημιτισμός τής Ευρώπης, η φύση τής ενοχής. Μπορείτε σχεδόν να αισθανθείτε και να μυρίσετε την φυσική και ηθική παρακμή τών Ευρωπαϊκών πόλεων.
Αυτή είναι μια μοναδική ευρωπαϊκή ιστορία στο βαθμό που εμείς οι Ευρωπαίοι, περισσότερο από οπουδήποτε αλλού, ζούμε με τα φαντάσματα του παρελθόντος. Αν οι αμαρτίες γονέων παιδεύουσι τέκνα, αυτό θα συμβεί σε χώρες όπως η Ελλάδα, η Γαλλία, η Ουγγαρία, (η Ευρώπη γενικά) λόγω μιάς βαθιά ριζωμένης ιστορικής πραγματικότητας. Το Dead Ευρώπη μάς φέρνει σε έναν κόσμο από τον οποίο δεν μπορούμε να ξεφύγουμε, επειδή οι πράξεις μας μπορούν να μας στοιχειώσουν. With English OR Greek Subtitles Available to users only
