For a gay filmmaker, filming in Saudi Arabia presents two serious
challenges: filming is forbidden in the country and homosexuality is
punishable by death. For filmmaker Parvez Sharma, however, these were
risks he had to assume as he embarked on his Hajj pilgrimage, a journey
considered the greatest accomplishment and aspiration within Islam, his
religion. On his journey Parvez aims to look beyond 21st-century Islam's
crises of religious extremism, commercialism and sectarian battles. He
brings back the story of the religion like it has never been told
before, having endured the biggest jihad there is: the struggle with the
self.

Whoa so brave of him to film this in Mecca.
This is not an anti-Islam actually coz Parvez believes that he's a good Muslim even if he's gay.
He could be both even if homosexuality is not really accepted in his religion.

This is such a bold documentary.

It's really thrilling when he's circling the Holy Stone in Masjid Al Haram.
It's an intense scene that could lead to a deadly stampede.

His journey is exhausting honestly. Well, it's a sacrifice so they really have to do it.

Saudi must be furious about this film no wonder he received a lot of death threats.
It's an anti-Saudi expose.  So really brave of him.

Thanks again Marcus. It's an eye opener.
