Beyond Good and Evil recounts the intense relationship between German
philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, his friend author Paul Rée and Russian
writer and feminist Lou Salomé. They meet in Rome in 1882 and move to
Germany in a failed ménage à trois while attempting to live their lives
and satisfy their intellectual needs rejecting morality. Nietzsche goes
mad from a venereal disease and Paul discovers his repressed
homosexuality with tragic consequences. Lou, the most liberated of the
three, following the banner of feminism, is the only survivor.
Nietzsche declared the "Death of God" and wrote such famous books as "Thus Spoke
Zarathustra" and "Beyond Good and Evil". The film focuses on love and
the bisexual/homosexual triangle between Nietzsche, Paul and Lou. After
the break with Paul and Lou, Nietzsche's life was more or less finished,
suffering a total collapse, possibly the consequence of much abuse of
both opium and sex of all kinds - Richard Wagner said that Nietzsche
attracted syphillis from visiting too many gay brothels in Genoa. The
director of the mental clinic in Jena Otto Binswanger confirmed to
Sigmund Freud that Nietzsche contracted syphillis from a gay brothel in
Genoa. Also Nietzsche's scholar Joachim Köhler suggests that Nietzsche
may have had a romantic relationship, as well as a friendship, with Paul
Rée. In the film we see only Paul's homosexuality.

Το Πέρα από το Καλό και το Κακό αφηγείται την έντονη σχέση μεταξύ τού
Γερμανού φιλόσοφου Friedrich Nietzsche, τού φίλου του συγγραφέα Paul Rée
και τής Ρωσίδας συγγραφέα και φεμινίστριας Lou Salomé. Συναντιούνται
στη Ρώμη το 1882 και μετακομίζουν στη Γερμανία σε ένα αποτυχημένο ménage
à trois προσπαθώντας να ζήσουν τη ζωή τους και να ικανοποιήσουν τις
πνευματικές τους ανάγκες απορρίπτοντας την αστική ηθική. Ο Νίτσε
τρελαίνεται από ένα αφροδίσο νόσημα και ο Paul ανακαλύπτει την
καταπιεσμένη ομοφυλοφιλία του με τραγικές συνέπειες. Η Λου, η πιο
απελευθερωμένη από τους τρεις, ακολουθώντας τον φεμινισμό της, είναι η
μόνη που επιζεί.
Ο Νίτσε κήρυξε το «Θάνατο τού Θεού» και έγραψε διάσημα βιβλία όπως «Τάδε έφη Ζαρατούστρα» και «Πέρα από το καλό και το
κακό». Η ταινία επικεντρώνεται στην αγάπη και το αμφιφυλόφιλο /
ομοφυλόφιλο τρίγωνο μεταξύ Nietzsche, Paul και Lou. Μετά το χωρισμό του
με τον Paul και την Lou, η ζωή τού Nietzsche τελείωσε λίγο ως πολύ,
καταλήγοντας σε πλήρη κατάρρευση, πιθανώς η συνέπεια τής κατάχρησης τόσο
τού οπίου όσο και τού σεξ κάθε είδους - ο Richard Wagner είπε ότι ο
Νίτσε κόλλησε σύφιλη επειδή πήγαινε σε πολλά γκέι πορνεία στην Γένοβα. Ο
διευθυντής τής ψυχιατρικής κλινικής τής Ιένα Otto Binswanger
επιβεβαίωσε στον Σίγκμουντ Φρόιντ ότι ο Νίτσε κόλλησε σύφιλη από τα γκέι
πορνεία στην Γένοβα.. Επίσης ο μελετητής τού Νίτσε Joachim Köhler
αναφέρει ότι ο συγγραφέας ίσως να είχε μια ρομαντική σχέση, πέρα από τη
φιλία, με τον Paul Rée. Το φιλμ δείχνει μόνο την ομοφυλοφιλία τού Πωλ.
