From master storyteller Guillermo del Toro comes THE SHAPE OF WATER, an otherworldly fable set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
While not a "gay film" per se, one of the main characters is gay and does have a love interested.
Advocate.com says: "The Shape of Water: A Fairytale for Queers and Other Outsiders"
Pride.com: "The Shape of Water Is a Love Letter to the LGBT Community"
And intomore.com: "Shape of Water’ Has the Best Gay Best Friendship I’ve Ever Seen Depicted on Screen" (This one is a bit of a reach but you be the judge)
A wonderful fairy tale about a merman and a lonely woman. Most of all, a truly touching film about having a gay bestfriend who would fight for you til the end. This is so good! Guillermo has a massive chance to win at the Oscars for Best Director and probably Best Picture too.
